One die.

Ten practice areas.

Give your session a direction.

A jumbo 10-sided die designed to answer one of the most familiar practice questions:

What should I work on today?

Each roll gives your practice a different focus - from rhythm, chords and scales to technique, improvisation and repertoire - without telling you exactly what to play.

The ten sides cover:

Rhythm · Chords · Scales · Licks · Ear Training / Transcribing · Technique · Improvisation · Campfire · Developer · Dreamer

Campfire, Developer and Dreamer originated as JustinGuitar repertoire categories, but the principle translates easily to any instrument: from familiar pieces you can simply enjoy playing, through material you're actively developing, to more ambitious pieces you're working towards.

Use the result of a roll for a quick five-minute session, spend longer exploring it, or combine the Practice Focus Die with other Musician's Dice to create a more specific challenge.

It isn't a practice plan, and there isn't a right way to respond.

The die chooses the focus; you decide how to practise it.

  • Ten different areas of musical practice
  • Gives practice sessions an instant focus
  • Covers technique, musical skills and repertoire
  • Helps break repetitive practice habits
  • Adaptable to different instruments, levels and goals
  • Completely screen-free
  • Use it on its own or alongside other Musician's Dice

Use it on its own, combine it with other Musician's Dice, or find it in the Guitarist Edition.

Roll

Anywhere, any time.

Read

See what musical prompt you've been given.

Respond

Interpret it at your own level, on your own instrument.

Play

Explore it. Change it. Combine it. See where it leads.

Roll again

Whenever you want another direction.

One tool. Different ways to use it.

Practice

Break a familiar routine and give yourself something new to work with.

Improvise

Let it become the starting point for something spontaneous.

Compose

Use chance to introduce an idea you might not otherwise have chosen.

Teach

Turn a roll into a prompt for listening, discussion and musical decision-making.

Start with one. Add another.

Every Musician's Die works as a prompt in its own right.

Roll one when all you need is a new musical direction.

Combine it with another Musician's Die when you want the roll to take you somewhere more specific.

One die gives you a starting point.

More dice create new possibilities.
