MUSICIAN'S DICE IN BRIEF

A roll of the dice.
A new musical direction.

Musician’s Dice are tactile, screen-free tools for music practice, exploration and creativity.

Each roll provides a musically meaningful starting point - then leaves the musician to decide what happens next.

Designed for practice, teaching, improvisation and composition, they introduce structured randomness without apps, screens or complicated setup.

Roll. Respond. Play.

What are Musician's Dice?

Musician’s Dice are physical music-making tools that turn chance into musically useful prompts.

Rather than telling the player what to play, each roll introduces a note, chord quality, musical function or practice direction.

The musician interprets that prompt at their own level, on their own instrument and in their own way.

The Musician's Dice Range

It started with a simple idea.

Musician’s Dice began as a way of answering a familiar question: what shall I play?

The original Core Edition used two dice - notes and chord qualities - to introduce an element of chance without prescribing what the musician should do with the result.

That simple idea became the foundation for Musician’s Dice: give the musician somewhere to begin, then leave the musical decisions to them.

The Guitarist Edition subsequently developed the idea with Justin Sandercoe and the JustinGuitar team, adding more structure specifically for guitar practice.

The dice provide the starting point.
The musician provides the music.

FAQs

What are Musician’s Dice designed to do?

Are they suitable for beginners?

Do they replace conventional music practice or teaching?
No. They are designed to sit alongside existing practice, teaching methods and curricula rather than replace them.

Can they be used in education?
Yes. The open-ended format lends itself to individual lessons, groups, classrooms, ensembles and other teaching settings.

Where are they available?
Musician’s Dice can be purchased directly from musiciansdice.fun. Trade and education enquiries are also welcome.
